It's so annoying when people say "you're always making excuses" because um, no, those are legitimate reasons for why I can't hang out. Sorry for having stuff to do.
I'd just stop working on and thinking about the book for a while until things become less busy for you and less bitchy between you and your mom. If after a while you decide you want to finish it then do it and give it to her.
For the record I haven't given my mom a gift in years and she never gives me anything more than a pair of new sheets or some homemade soap. We're both happy with a phone call on our birthdays.
Yes, exactly. The other night they wanted to go to dinner as I was walking out the door to go to work. That's not an excuse, it's a reason. There's a difference.
I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm probably gonna have to eat a bowl of courage and just tell her I'm putting it on hold for a while, and that her outburst is the reason why.
I don't mind not getting much of anything for my birthday. I'd be happy if we did work out a "rule" similar to yours, with something simple. Hmm...I may have to propose this. Then again, with any luck I'll be moving out of state next year so it won't really be much of an issue.
