Organization

We're slowly beating the house into shape, working together for a while every morning. I am signed up for FlyLady again, and am using her missions/zone of the week as a guideline for what I tackle on any given day. The boy is a lot better at the decluttering side of things, and I am better at cleaning, so that's how we roughly divide it. This ( Read more... )

So interesting that you're talking about this. I just finished a class last week called Psychology of Reality Television. It was a really great class. The last week of the class, the topic was Neatness, Cleanliness, Organization, and Hoarding. We talked a lot about clutter and watched some shows like Clean Sweep and some home makeover shows. We learned about how organization is handled in the frontal cortex and how people who have brain damage or have suffered from a stroke may have damage to that part of the brain. When that happens, people tend to be less organized and hoard things for no reason. It was a really interesting topic, I thought.

I have to admit, I am the queen of organization.

I have one of those plastic 7 drawer bins for rubber stamps (anyone want them, I do not rubber stamp anymore, ever).
I have one for sewing.

I also keep a suitcase packed for overnight trips (ala emergency room runs).
A bag of ostomy supplies that can be grabbed in an instance
my make up in a...you guessed it, a handy dandy bag to be grabbed in an instance.

It makes life so easy. I can easily pick up anything and go.

Haha. I'd love the stamps, but unless I take them to school, Jesse will beat me for collecting more stuff. ;)

I'll go through and post pictures, if any are school worthy, I'll send them to you :)

You are a very organized person! It's very cool.

I am trying to make a distinction between "containment" and "organization"... it's different to have everything in one bin and to have everything contained in a usable manner, I am learning. (slowly...!) Right now most thing are contained, but not organized. :/

I might take the stamps, depending on what they are? :)

And when I have projects like your quilt square, I can easily look to see what supplies I need to replace when I do finally make the run to the fabric store.

I did something similar and went to Target and bought clear plastic stackable boxes with lids and labeled them with things like 'linen thread', 'weaving supplies', 'jewelry-making', etc. I don't scrapbook, though, and I did still end up with a giant two-door bin of yarn. And I have a closet full of fabric that is stacked semi-neatly but not really /organized/, per se.

I like your scheme for the card-sending! And I mourn with you for your beloved but unused fabric.

Yeah, right now I have everything in bins like "Yarn" "Fabric" "knitting needles" "sewing stuff" -- like I said a couple comments up to Jess, it's contained but not organized. I am trying to organize... trying being the key word thus far. ;)

Yay! I am glad someone thinks it is not just a convoluted time sink! ;) And yes. Sadness on the gorgeous and unused silks. :/

Timely differentiation between containment and organization. We spent four hours Sunday just going through bins in the new storage unit (as in the second of two). Tons and tons of photographs--should I tell you that you have in our storage at least four boxes of photos from CRMS, Space Academy, Green River, etc. And of course tons and tons of paper. I have drawings from you as an 18month old. (Yes, I am tossing them. But not without looking at them first ( ... )

I know I have a CRMS scrapbook/photo album around somewhere, but it's not here. I'll make off with the photos, at least, to get those out of your hair!

I am sure papa has suggested (and if he hasn't, shame on him!) the idea of scanning much of the paper/drawings. The relatively small hassle of storing an external drive or DVD of my 18-month-old scribbles is probably worth the peace of mind that you didn't -really- get rid of them.
