for those of you who are homeowners, is there anything you'd do differently, pay more attention to, or pay less attention to the next time you buy a house or if you had the opportunity to re-do your last house purchase? what was the best thing you paid attention to that worked out really well? what was a pleasant surprise?
thanks!

Happy with: living room with vaulted ceiling, rooms all large enough, no structural problems, quickly livable

Might also look around and give some thought to expansion - sooner than you think you'll be looking around thinking about which walls to remove and how to expand.
I'm really glad we have a pier and beam foundation. If you're looking over at Ira's neighborhood talk with him about the slab situation over there - they had major issues that were typical in the area - cardboard storm drain kinda things if I remember right.
Windows - our last house had super crummy windows. I didn't realize how cheap, leaky windows would be so drafty. If the windows are crummy take a look towards how many and if they're standard size to replace.
A pool is a MAJOR pain the the touckus. And expensive. We're looking at converting to salt water to try and lesson the maintenance. I'm ready to rip it up and have a "hole" feature in the yard.
tile is cold in the winter.
