So I spoke to my mom last night and my Aunt Lucy did die.  Apparently, she had had several strokes and was in a nursing home.  She said she didn't think I was that close to her so she didn't call.  She didn't call to tell me that Aunt Grace had died either.  What's up with that?  I guess I don't rate.  Anyways, I invited her for Christmas since we ( Read more... )

That's terrible. Sounds like she take advantage of you and is completely unreasonable. It sucks when you realize that you are more mature than your own mother. I am not a big believer in "you only give gifts if you receive them" cuz sometimes giving a gift is more about showing your appreciation for that person, but in this case, if she never exchanges gifts, perhaps you should just tell her that maybe you shouldn't do the gift thing at Christmas and instead go out for lunch or something. That alleviates that feeling of unbalance.

This year, I'm giving her a cross stitch that I did years ago of the Madonna that my dad made a frame for before he died. It was hanging in my bedroom but I've replaced it with something more pagan friendly and I think she would like this...not only for its religious significance to her but the ( ... )

Rant away, any time you want. Moms are the best at pushing all your buttons... probably because they installed them!

So sorry about your aunt... I hope you have a good catch-up with your cousin, at least...
