whoa synchronicity, kind of, as I just posted this poem by Christopher Smart in someone's lj

I always thought the two of them were, like, crazy cat twins in their respective mediums.

what a lovely poem! These pictures go with it so well. Cats are brilliant. the very first poem I learnt was about a cat, when I was four. unfortunately I can't remember it except the lines "cats sleep anywhere, on the sofa's, on a chair"

Ah, I love him! I always remember reading about him in high school, and how his works became increasingly abstract as he suffered from schizophrenia..but I also believe that was subject to debate?

I only discovered him yesterday, and was delighted. His drawings sent my Dale running to the pencil pot, he's already done a lovely picture of our willow cat.
Alot of people think Louis had Aspergers, which I think is more likely than schizophrenia. Loads of children are miss-daignosed with bipolar or schizophrenia when they are actually autistic/tourettic. He chose to draw humans as cats, which is very much an aspergers trait: it helps them understand human nature more by comparing humans to animals. Lots of the children in the special school I worked in did that, one little boy draw his mother as a spawning toad to come to grips with her pregnancy, I had a hard time explaining that humans don't make toad spawn!
You are so lucky having read about him in high school, my school stuck with all the typical and famous artists.
