Yeah, not eating doesn't work for me. My diabetes when it is out of control makes me feel like a starving Ethiopian 24/7 and I get pretty dizzy and cranky when I'm that hungry. I feel the only option for me right is to get this weight off ASAP and hopefully my blood sugar will come down and I won't be so damn hungry anymore. BTW you had a beautiful wedding, thank you for inviting us!

FYI-Stomach is only the size of a golfball at the smallest (not a thimble) and it stretches to hold a cup within the first 2 years. Surgery is the only long term proven treatment for obesity that exists today with any success rate. Depending on the surgery you choose, there is a 20%-50% failure rate still of keeping the weight off. It is not a cure all, only a treatment.

Obesityhelp.com has lots of information in addition to the WLS community. It sounds like you are in the early stages and need more accurate information and research to decide. They don't do "stomach stapling" anymore. Most surgeries performed in the US are RNY (gastric bypass), Lap Band, DS (less commonly) and VGS (otherwise known as VGB with sleeve). A great place to start is by researching the pros and cons from surgeons who do the operations you are interested in. Never trust the "facts" from a doctor who does just one kind of surgery.

Forgive me if I seemed misinformed. I really wasn't trying to present a well-researched point-of-view. I was just jotting down some thoughts that were going through my head the moment I knew that this could be a real possibility for me. Thanks for the information.

No worries at all. I'm sorry for your health trouble and hope that your diabetes soon is better. I also suffer from neuropathy down my right leg and it SUCKS, so I have empathy. Unfortunately, it wasn't resolved with my surgery (the neuropathy), but I'm much happier and healthier for having had surgery.

I'm really glad you are looking in to it.
