Art

I made the decision to try for a tattoo apprenticeship, so I’ve been forcing myself out of my comfort zone and doing at least one sketch a day, but sometimes is frustrating because all I see is me as a little kid trying to draw Nintendo characters and not understanding why I couldn’t make them look good.

Well, I took the advice of many many people and got an iPad 7 w/Apple Pencil and Procreate and I AM SO HAPPY. I feel empowered. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but the program made me feel like I can accomplish whatever I want. I cried I was so happy. All of these years of being creative and not knowing where or how or why to pinpoint my artistic mindset and I finally have an outlet. I finally feel like I have a direction.

I thought I wanted to go to tattoo school, but I’ve been told by one of my favorite artists that they’re trash, and there have been protests by legitimate artists and really thought-provoking articles written about the bad experiences people have had there. I figured any experience would be better than none, but I never considered they might teach me bad habits.

So for now, I’m going to continue to develop my art until I can build a portfolio and hopefully get an apprenticeship someday this year. I didn’t want to wait, I wanted a definitive timeline where I could sorta see when I might become an artist, but this is the safer more legitimate way. I don’t want to give up, I want a career that will make me happy and this will.
