There is a very nice blend of terseness and description in 'it had been one of those endless sixteen-hour, nonstop days', bringing the heaviness and the need, and the detail. Enough to understand what about it has gotten to Tony, what's gotten to Gibbs, what's gotten to Abby, and how they'll interact together in catharsis.
