Okay, okay! You've convinced me. I loved Torchwood (although I thought CoE was a little passive aggressive on RTD's part, but that's another subject entirely), but I was uneasy about an "American" version. I'm sold, though. Next problem: HOW does one watch it? (Let's assume I'm a poor med student who can't afford premium cable channels...)

On a side note, you're the second TW fan I've run across who is seriously annoyed by Gwen. I actually rather like her. I like that she easily assumes the position of second in command, I like that she yells at Jack for abandoning his team without a plan or a clue, I like that she is determined to help the families in Adrift (and hold that she bungled it only because Jack was so unnecessarily obdurate in witholding important information), I like that she bothers to comfort Tosh after the telepathy incident.
What is it that makes her annoying? (I'm honestly very curious.)

I pretty much hated COE. I understand it from a meta point of view - the need to tell a grand story and the fact that Miracle Day would make zero sense without having COE to set up the notion of real-world horror.

(One watches it by ahem-ing it from various internet sites. I guarantee you that if you google "torchwood miracle day episode _____ stream", you can watch it on your comp.)

I don't hate Gwen, and I am much less seriously annoyed by her than other fans. The problem I have with her is in RTD's writing, the very obvious way he sets her up to be the "heroine" and "entry character" for everyone. She has a lot of focus and development that characters like Tosh and Owen and Ianto never got, and COE pretty much made her into Superwoman overnight. I'd be fine if she got all that development while other characters had it too, but it's very plain that it was always Gwen we were supposed to care about and root for. She's very much an RTD heroine - we get told and told how awesome and wonderful and badass she is, and only rarely shown ( ... )
