After vacation, there was a quiet, post-vacation period and now I'm in a busy, post-post-vacation period. Mostly this seems to involve spending all of my moneys. No one thing I'm doing is that expensive, and I'm enjoying everything, but I think I need to be careful not to schedule quite so many fun and expensive things so close to each other ( Read more... )

I wouldn't stress about the turkey - if you've roasted a chicken before, it's the same thing but bigger! Just be sure you allow enough time to defrost if you get it frozen - 2-3 days in the fridge.

Only 11 weeks to go! Wait till you get to the counting days-not-weeks point! Scary! :)

Ha, I've never roasted a chicken either! Maybe I'll practice on that this weekend.

Well - the points to remember are:
-breast side up
-melt some butter and either massage it in before cooking, or baste over once in awhile to keep the skin from burning
-if you cut into the breast and see reddish juice, it's not done
-if the skin seems to be browning too much or burning before the bird's actually done, cover with foil

Good luck! It'll be great!

Turkey cooking technology has advanced greatly since our parent's day. You'll have no trouble. :p Have fun with your last holiday season as DINKs. :p

I was assuming you are doing family things, but you are welcome to stop by if you want! We had invited mostly people who don't have a lot of family in the area. I haven't decided what time we'll eat yet.

Turkey is one of my favorite things to make. I personally like to stuff seasoned butter (sage, rosemary, etc.) between the skin and the meat of the breast and legs before roasting. Makes it impossible to come out dry and it's OH so great tasting.

I can't believe it's almost baby time!

I can't really either. 11 weeks is kind of a long time (you can't skip changing your sheets for 11 weeks) and kind of not (probably only one more haircut).

There is one posted on Facebook, but it's probably 6 weeks old at this point. If you're motivated to dig for it you could, but I'll post another one (here or there) soon.
