There wasn't much to say to the human that came to get him from the room he'd been waiting in. There'd been a kind of slab that he guessed was supposed to be a bed, but it was kinda just decoration at this point since he didn't sleep these days. Apparently today he was supposed to meet this partner he'd heard Claire mention - something about all agents having to be partnered up, this buddy system like he needed a chaperon to rope in some humans.

Getting escorted into the next waiting room, Dean fixed on the human inside. At least, pretty sure it was a human: despite the weird bulky suit the human was wearing, all the arms and legs were in the right places.

His eyes narrowed. Couldn't exactly see his partner's face like this, the proto-demon taking a cautious step forward. Claire had said that the Company sometimes paired up regular humans with the "specials". Didn't explain the suit. It wasn't like he could carry diseases or anything.

Huh.

"What's with the monkey suit?"

Elle pulled off the helmet of the suit so she could get a better look at her partner. Not that she really needed to. She'd know that face anywhere, even if this particular body was possessed or whatever. It was all more or less the same in the long run. He was still Dean. That's what she kept reminding herself, anyways.

"It's for my protection," She explained in a matter of fact tone of voice. "The special we're going after is a waterkinetic who's been living down in the sewers, messing with the system." She pulled off one of the gloves now, letting her hand crackle with electricity.

"And water and electricity don't mix well. At all. So I got the suit in order to be able to function as a partner on this mission instead of being useless or a liability. That a problem?"

Oh. It was her.

"Yeah, kind of a problem if you get a suit breach there," Dean said. The proto-demon came closer to inspect Elle and the suit, his lip curling in a sneer as he checked it out. Were they serious? Throwing some girl at a freak with water powers or something? He circled around Elle, frowning. "I don't get what they're playing at with this."

He gestured at her with his stripped hand. Dean couldn't tell if this was a test or a joke or what - he got this was his first job but if she got hit with water, was he expected to actually step in and save her? Babysit her? Let her take the lead and watch how she did it with a handicap? That was the problem with dealing with these humans. Back home with Alastair he knew exactly what was expected. These days, he was just kind of taking shots in the dark.

“Angela doesn’t like me, that’s what they’re playing at,” Elle bit back in an annoyed tone. Nothing would convince her that this whole ordeal wasn’t some big plan of Angela’s to see her fall on her face and fail. But that was just too bad because she wasn’t going to let that happen. She was better than she used to be, stronger and more together. She wasn’t going to fail this mission like she used to.

That just wasn’t going to happen.
