I'm always passing by places that look interesting, then forgetting where they are.  This afternoon, I paid very careful attention to everything that I thought could come in handy or looked cool on my walk home from classes, and then noted it all down as soon as I got back in ( Read more... )

You know you've read a couple too many lolcats when you read "Ile de la Cité also has a flower market" as "Ile de la Cité also has a flavor"

Pretty much this gets to be your fault. People in Monroe blame YOU, as it were.

DO NOT MISS SAINTE-CHAPELLE. The first time I was in Paris, somebody told us that if they could only see one thing in the city it would be Sainte-Chapelle, even above, say, Notre Dame. We of course had many days and saw many things, but that person was right: I think about Saint-Chapelle probably the most often and wouldn't have regretted only going to see it ( ... )

Actually, reading over this, it becomes more and more obvious to me how much she'd already been asked to work an hour more than usual on a late shift dealing with snotty American tourists all the while paying overtime to a babysitter for her kid, with whom she lived without a father in a much less stylish district very far away. I think we knew that this or something like it was the case even at the time, and that's why we paid the bill anyway. Besides, you know, not paying the bill wasn't really an option: some things are just wrong.

actually, go there but buy a two day museum pass before hand (they're expensive, but you get a free pass to all of these great museums... and get to bypass all the two hour lines to buy the tickets!)
