Ba Ba Ba Ba Baaa, Ba Ba Ba Ba Baaaa Ba Bah.

I was just listening to some ABBA, because I'm badass like that, and who really wants to go out on a Friday night anyway (in my defense, I actually WAS going to go out, but I have to be up super early in the morning), when "Take A Chance On Me" came on my player ( Read more... )

As far as Swedish groups go, Ace of Base still rules.

Yes, I said that in all seriousness.

Oh my. We need to have a talk, sir.

Once I unscreen this, prepare to be antagonized. ;-)

I used to get so angry when DJs in the '90s would talk about AOB like they were the first thing to ever come out of Sweden. I came close to going to a couple of stations to put a hurtin' on some DJs.

But we are all entitled to our opinion.

Even if it's wrong. :-P

Having just missed the 70s, I think I discovered the greatness of ABBA through Erasure's "Abba-esque" EP. It might even have been the very first record I bought - it was definitely one of the first. ABBA but with added campy synthpop, how could it get more freakin' awesome than that?

Oddly, I am straight.

Yes, I know you are. :-P

(Speaking of, do you remember the game show Remote Control that was on MTV? Or did that ever make it across the pond? It would've been mid-late '80s, I believe. Anyway, there were lots of fun categories, one of which was "Dead or Canadian?" and another was "Gay or British?" So I guess you've got two strikes against you, huh?)

I have heard a few of the Erasure versions of ABBA songs. I like Erasure and I love ABBA, and while I'm OK with their homage (there are few other bands that I can see pulling that one off), I still gotta have the original. They're kind of the ultimate band for me, bad '70s clothes and all.

If you haven't seen it already, you should watch Muriel's Wedding. Chock full of ABBA goodness!

You know, that's been one that is on my "must see" list for a while, because I'd heard it was ABBAful, but I just never have gotten around to seeing it. Thanks for the reminder!

Yeah, I can kind of understand that...they are rather, hmm...desperate? I think I like this song because it was the first one I ever heard by them. It's just a fond childhood memory, but there are certainly a lot of others I like better. I mainly wanted to share this one because of the funny misunderstood lyric.

And yes, you are correct...there is only one ABBA. Do you remember that trainwreck from about ten years ago called A-Teens? They did super bubblegummy pop remakes of ABBA songs. Holy crap, that was a disaster, but they sold a lot of records.

I love ABBA! One of my earliest memories is listening to my sister's 45 of SOS and dancing around her room. :)

OMG, that is one of my absolute favorite songs of theirs. My mom got me their Greatest Hits album for Christmas when I was about ten years old, and I LOVED that song so much.

OK, I have to go listen to it now!
