If anyone out there knows more than "query letters are important" and "find the right publishing house for your genre" then please let me know. That means you, Dei.
Bwahaha! Just take all my finer points of advice away from me, why don'tcha!
Seriously, though, forget all that. =^^= If you're not going into independent publishing, look for you an agent who handles work for your genre. It doesn't have to be a big-name one, either. Sometimes agents who are newer to the field are even better because they aren't already weighed down with highly-established clients who they're going to give top priority over you. =)
And I think the waiting period between the time of your submission and the time it's accepted/rejected is generally about six months, minimum, but I'm not sure about that. Depends on how big the pub-house is, I guess. =D Pub-house...sounds more like a place you go to drink lager than put out fine literature....
Okay, scouted around a tiny little bit in my very short off-time. =^^= I'm not sure about Googling, but I know some publications like Writer's Digest sometimes carry info on publishing houses looking for newcomers. Don't bother actually subscribing to the magazine, though. It's crap. And stubborn. Someone gave me a subscription as a gift about two years ago, and WD will NOT stop sending me new issues long after my subscription ran out. So just, like write down anything intersting you find in there. =^^= I'm sure there's probably some other good mags or rags you can check; just look for the Writer's Digest section at Books-A-Million, and you'll probably see related printings. =)

And would'ya look at this. I'm using all three of my avatars on one entry.
And thanks for the input, I was wondering at the back of my mind about how long that might take.
Any idea what one does to find agents though? Are they on google o.O?
