Mmm coffee. For me it's gotta start with strong, bold flavors but balanced out to be sweet and milky. A little caramel drizzled over the foam of a latte is like the cherry on top. Just thinking about it releases copious amounts dopamine in my nucleus accumbens.
My cutoff for coffee is noon, otherwise I find myself engaged in a battle against my bedsheets at night, in which I find myself completely entangled as a result of my tossing and turning. I convince myself I'm winning the battle by lying really, really still but then the caffeine causes an involuntary leg kick.
Sometimes when I really want to focus on writing, I'll drink too much coffee too fast. Oh man does that feel good for a while. I'm typing at a feverish pace, unaware of the unceasing distractions around me. And then restlesness, rapid heartbeat, and irritability ensue. Temporarily becoming a deranged attack kitten is still so worth it...

Normally, my caffeine cut off is 2pm and I religiously stick to it. After 2, decaf takes over (or herbal tea or cocoa... mmm). But I did recently get peer pressured into drinking a late night regular. I ordered a tiramisu and decaf at a wanna-be-snobby cafe and was informed that they don't have any decaf. Apparently that was too bourgeoisie. I hesitated for a moment, caught a disdainful glimpse of "Real women don't drink decaf" on my dining partner's face, and decided I had to take the plunge or be discredited forever! (not to mention that the tiramisu would have been very lonely without the coffee) It was very strange, really.
ok, as evidenced by the fact that its 3:30 AM and i'm WIDE awake, i take my coffee....at just about every opportunity that comes my way. in fact, i've just prepared tomorrow morning's coffee, so that i can stumble out of bed, hit my favorite little button in the world, get dressed while sniffing the wonderous scent of caffeine goodness, and drink that deliciousness before getting into my car and endangering other drivers on the way to school.
luckily, i put a ton of half and half in every cup, (and there are many cups every day) which helps to balance things out a bit.... :)
