Hmmm....it's been so long since I paid any attention to my internet life. It took me forever to even figure out what my LJ name was and how to access my account. I noticed that TIP has shut down (it was fantastic while it lasted

Australia is full of cool places. At the moment: avoid Victoria, as they have bushfires across half the state and Melbourne is being blanketed by haze on a regular basis. I love the city, but not particularly fun at the moment. It hasn't been this bad since the '83 fires

Tasmania grow opium poppies. Tassie is also small enough to do a few day roadtrip around, and actually manage to see most things. Cascade Brewery beer is all right. Cascade Brewery cordial is worth importing, but they won't.
Western Australia is too far away for me to make any judgements about; plus I've never been there. They have black swans over there, though. That tells you how nuts they are.
Northern Territory have Uluru and Kakadu National Park. They also have many snakes and spiders and crocodiles.
(Come to Sydney. If you're here next weekend, I may even be able to show you around bits of it.)

Sadly, I won't be able to get to Australia in time for you to show me around, otherwise that would be so awesome. I have to spend a couple of weeks in Auckland getting my passport redone (mine was accidentally in my backpack not in a plastic bag and it ended up getting really wet and I'm guessing that even if they let me out of New Zealand with it in the condition that it's in, they would definitely not let me back into the US). I think I'm definitely going to hit up Sydney and will probably head over on Christmas day and be around that area for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to get to Airlie beach (I hear that I can do some cool sea kayaking there) and other than that, I'll wing it. =) Thanks for all the information!

You could give me a list of the museum highlights. Like which ones I REALLY don't want to miss. I usually like natural history museums the best, but am up for anything that has good exhibits. As it is, I will definitely try to hit up the places that you've given me. Does Sydney have an easy to use public transportation system?
If all goes as planned (I feel nervous booking flights, using my credit card, on public computers in internet cafes and according to teh internets, the Washington area has been hit with storms and has no power so my mom hasn't gotten my emailed instructions for arranging my flights), I will be in Australia until the 9th, when I will be flying back to Auckland and then to the US from there. If you wanted to hook up on the 7th or the 8th and have a mini-summit, that would be awesome. =)
Unfortunately, once I get back from Australia and New Zealand I won't have the money to fund any more adventures for awhile. It's probably time that I start being a productive member of society anyway, so I'll have to get a real job where I have to earn vacation time and such. Too bad. =) Though, I might apply to end up back in Japan in a year or so teaching.
My old roommate just got back from Japan. I am jealous of her. Now I'm jealous of you, too. Sounds like you're having a great time travelling the world. Enjoy Australia!
You should be jealous! Japan kind of rocked my socks. Not as much as NZ, but it's pretty nifty. If you ever get the chance to go, DO IT. It's rad. I think I'm going to apply for the JET program, and see if I can get a job teaching English over there for a year, which would be very excellent.
