[Updated February 22, 2008 @ 21:08]I want to try and compile a list of books that I have read, but there are a lot of books that I couldn't remember very well/didn't want to remember. So instead, I'm compiling a list of books I have read (or re-read) since starting my undergraduate degree (aka since September 2002). If you can think of something ( Read more... )

Which of these, specifically of the fiction, do you recommend? I'm looking for some new reading material.

Oh, geez. Pretty much all of them.

How about Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie... it's about two teenage boys who get sent into rural China during the cultural revolution; a great read, but quite a short book

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my favorite books of all time, and I think you'd like it (he invented "magical realism" with this book), though the fact that it's one hundred years of the same family recycling the same name, and it can get quite confusing at times.

The Shadow Boxer is a real sleeper hit. Steven Heighton has only written one other book (I believe it's a collection of poems), but it's great. Very semi-autobiographical, and Canadian to boot!

East of Eden by John Steinbeck is a true American classic, and another one of my favorites. A must read, if you ask me. There's even a character named Caleb in it.

Also, pretty much anything by Kurt Vonnegut has my seal of approval.

I have eclectic taste in books... and a lot of them I was introduced to in my degree.
