once a month cooking

So,  I decided to give once a month cooking a try.  Today, I shopped for and prepared enough dinners for every week day for 4 weeks.  Since each meal, except for the 3 dinners worth of quiche, is meat, I am not doing this t osave money, but to save time.  Here's the beef!  The average cost of each meal is 11.50.  This does not incude sides.  The ( Read more... )

It may be only 20 minutes per dinner, but 7.5 hours is still a lot of time to be on your feet!

Yup, it's all in the freezer. It's nice that it never needed to be in the fridge, because there isn't room for all that meat in there, and it solves the problem of trying to buy meat for a week and keep it fresh. What ever way I feed my family, there is no SIMPLE way, so trying new things keeps it manageable.

I have been considering this strongly. We have had meal planning issues in the house for some time now and it would be so much easier just to have a selection of frozen stuff.

Do you use a food saver?

No, I just freeze in regular zip locks. I know it is a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe I'll go on Free cycle and ask for a food saver. The biggest problem I had with giving this a whirl, was the total lack of low carb fare on the OAMC websites I visited. What's nice is I don't have to plan beyond getting things out of the freezer, and cooking some veggies. I'll keep posting on what worked and what didn't.
