' All I ever wanted was to be a normal boy my age. ' Kai mused as he scrubbed the pots and pans in the sink. ' And I still have a second part-time job after this. '
He wasn't complaining per say , but it would be nice to have a break once in a while. At least the second job only required him to check out goods from the counter at the convenience store. His life was hectic. A normal boy his age wouldn't have to be working his ass off just to pay his school fees and his mother who spent nights either drunk or doing nothing but reminisce about the past.
The truth was , Kai was tired. He'd been leading this hectic lifestyle ever since he was 14. It was high time that he either stopped school or stopped working. He wasn't going to be able to keep this much any longer.
Kai sighed. There were still lots more pots and pans to be washing. There's no time to waste musing on the impossible.

Ruki looked up at the entrance to the school dormitories. A new life once again. He'd had enough of moving around. Maybe it's time to finally stop running and just concentrate on schooling. It's not like he didn't have money. On the contrary , he had enough money to live his life comfortably as it is.
But he needed to do this , to continue schooling. For his sake more than theirs.
As Ruki stepped into the dormitory , he wondered what kind of person his new room mate would be. At this moment , maybe all he needed was a friend.

Ruki knocked the door to his new room twice. No reply. He sighed. Maybe he wasn't welcome here or maybe it was too late after all. When he had stepped into the dormitory , it was already 9pm. It had taken him at least half an hour to find his room in the maze that was the school's dormitory.
As Ruki sighed and placed his duffle bag by the door , the door next to his opened and a young man stepped out in his boxers.
" Ah. Who are you and what are you doing outside Kai's door ? " He asked when he laid his eyes on Ruki.
Ruki straightened himself up and bowed politely. " I'm Ruki , his .. er .. new room mate. I was supposed to be here earlier but I missed my morning flight. Um , would you happen to know where my roommate went ? "
The person before Ruki eyed him up and down before sighing. " Damn that kid. He's most probably still working. He wouldn't be here till another hour or so unless he's working overtime again. " He thrust his hand out at Ruki , gesturing for a handshake. " I'm Aoi , Kai's overprotective neighbour who looks out for him whenever I can. You're welcome to stay over here while waiting for Kai. Don't mind my roommate though , he's perpetually drunk. "

Kai looked up at the dark sky which was littered with stars. He lifted his bag higher on his shoulders before continuing his jog back to the dormitory. Gates closed at 11.30 pm and he had to make it back before then so that he could escape from getting into any trouble.
When the gates were in sight , the guard was already getting ready to close the gates. Kai pushed himself and sprinted the last couple of meters into the dorm. ' That's the last time I'm tacking on overtime this week. ' Kai reminded himself as he trudged up the stairs to his room only to see a note taped onto his door.
" Come over to my room before you enter yours. Your new roommate parked his ass here while you were working.
Pick him up before Uruha gets any ideas. "
Somehow , he wondered if he could pretend not to see the note.

As Ruki followed his silent roommate back to their room , he thought that this guy was either really busy or plain lazy. The room was what one would call an organized mess. A pile of clothes in one corner , books in another , a messy bed and a lone laptop on the desk. At least his side of the room was relatively clean. Somewhat.
A vein twitched as he thought of living with this guy.
Kai looked around the room and sighed while picking his clothes off the floor and dumping them in a hamper which he would bring to the dormitory’s washing room one of these days , someday. He tried to straighten the room up a little , aware of the fact that his room mate was staring openly at the mess. He seemed to be a clean sort of guy who would fuss over the mess.
" Sorry for the mess. I haven't had the time or energy to clean this place up. I never knew you were taking over the other half of the room. " Kai straightened up and wiped his hands on his pants. " I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Kai. I'm the guy who constantly chases after time. Pleased to meet you. " He smiled brightly at the other man while extending his hand for a handshake.
Ruki stared at the hand for a second or two before taking it in his own with a smile. " I'm Ruki. I'm the guy who finally decided to stop , drop and roll. Pleased to meet you. I hope we can get along with each other and that I won't be much of a bother here. "
Kai only smiled and shook Ruki's hand. " Don't worry. We'll definitely be friends. "

I’m here with a new AU fic now. :D It might not seem like much at the moment ( and how it doesn’t really seem like a high school fic yet & it's damn short ) but we’ll see how it goes in the future. And I know that I still have to finish up Cigarettes. I should really stop starting another series before finishing up another one eh ? XD
