Ruki wandered the campus grounds , grumbling under his breath about having to draw some nature for his art club that day. He wondered how Kai managed to skive off having any clubs. It wasn't like he had time to commit himself to clubs anyway. He did say that he used to be in one. What was it ? Soccer ? Yeah.
Ruki walked around the grounds absentmindedly , sketchbook in one hand , the other holding on to the strap of his backpack. His mind wandered with him , forgetting about having to look for something to draw by 4pm that day so that he wouldn't get detention for slacking off. Pfft. What kind of person would go for detention just because he didn't want to draw ? A huge waste of time , if anyone asked him.
Still lost in his thoughts , his mind didn't register the sound of leaves crunching behind him. It wasn't until much later when he snapped out of his thought that he realised that something had been following him. Disturbed , Ruki decided not to turn behind lest he get into unnecessary trouble with the school gangsters and bullies. ' Go away , go away , go away. ' he repeated in his head as he quickened his step.
He was so bent on trying to shake off his unwanted follower that when he reached a dead end , the only word he could say was , " Fuck. "
His face paled as he turned around slowly , hoping that whoever it was would be shorter than him. His height was such a useless thing when it came to things like these. When he finally turned around , he kept his eyes to the ground , wondering why there wasn't a pair or several pairs of shoes staring back at him.
Confused , he lifted his head and met nothing.
" Ehh ?! " He couldn't help but to exclaim at the nothingness that was before him. " Ehhh ? " Ruki walked forward , hoping that no one was playing a joke on him but when he reached the open road again , there was no one. Puzzled , he continued his trek around the school for something less cheerful and bright to draw.
But as he walked , there were still sounds of leaves crunching behind him. When he stopped , it stopped too. Annoyed at the prank , he ran. Surprisingly , whoever it was that was following him ran too. Deciding to end the prank , Ruki halted himself abruptly , turning behind as he did , hoping to meet the prankster but instead , his eyes met two beady eyes and a tongue lolling out as the owner panted.
A dog ? It was tiny. Chihuahua ? Mixed ? Ruki didn't know what to think of the little creature that had been following him. What did he have on him anyway that made the tiny thing follow him ? Oh. His new perfume. It was the first day he was using his perfume. He banged his head against the wall mentally and crouched down , waving his sketchbook at the dog and muttering , " Shoo , shoo ! " under his breath.
The dog tilted his head and lifted one paw while Ruki cursed his inability to resist cute things.

Kai touched the bruise on his face and hoped that it didn't look too bad. Apart from his bruised face , the only other injury he sustained from the trip to his father's place was a twisted ankle from when he shoved Kai out of the house and slammed the door in his face. Pffft. He didn't even open the door for him in the first place. It was some other foreign looking woman that opened the door with her lipstick smeared and clothes astray.
He winced when he touched the still fresh bruise and congratulated himself for managing to get money not only from the amount he owed them this month but also for the past 2 month's debt. He calculated the total amount he had currently including his savings and told himself that he would only give one month's worth of money to his mother this month. She spent money like water. But her share of the money could wait till next weekend. He had already missed out a day in school. No more slacking off.
" Yo ! Welcome back. "
Kai nearly jumped at the sudden greeting. It came from somewhere below him. Looking down , he realised that he was already at the school gates. His roommate was squatting down , sketchbook and pencil in hand and a cigarette in his mouth.
"Ah. Ruk-" -bark!cough!-
Wait , what was that ? " Um. Did I just hear a b-" -bark!- Okay , so Kai didn't imagine that bark.
He stared at Ruki , knowing that he was hiding something , more precisely , a dog from him. " Ruki , where is it ? "
Ruki blinked innocently. " Where's what ? "
Kai sighed. " The dog. You're hiding it from me. "
Disappointed that he'd been found out so early , Ruki shifted his body to a side to reveal a tiny dog looking expectedly and excitedly at him. Kai stopped himself from smiling. He would not give in to the dog's .. wait , is it giving him that puppy dog look ? No , it can't be giving him the puppydog look. The more Kai continuued staring at the little thing , the more it made itself look pathetic and cute.
" Fine. But we've got to hide him from Aoi. And make sure it doesn't bark at night. If we get found out , it's your fault and you're responsible for it , okay ? "
Ruki gave Kai an irritated look before smiling to himself and playing with the dog's two paws.
" By the way , did you give it a name already ? "
Ruki smirked. " Koron-chan ~ "
Who knew that the guy who drew skulls and smoked outside the school grounds would fall in a love with a tiny Chihuahua that he so adoringly named Koron. Who knew ?
