The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

Wow, I have to get better about writing book reviews when I actually finish a book. Sunday feels like a long time ago. So, despite the fact that I'm feeling inarticulate and bummed that another evening has completely gotten away from me, here goes.

The Lost Hero is the first book in Rick Riordan's second Camp Half-Blood series, about the half-mortal children of Olympian gods in the present day. But this book isn't narrated by Percy Jackson; in fact, he's not even in it. This story is from three different points of view: Jason, Piper, and Leo, three students at the Wilderness School (for troubled kids) who are on the weirdest field trip of their lives. Especially since Jason can't remember anything or anyone, not even Piper and Leo, his girlfriend and best friend, or even who he is. But when monsters attack, he remembers how to fight. The three heroes end up at Camp Half-Blood, but it's not long before they set off on a quest of their own, with higher stakes than they imagine.

It was so much fun to return to Riordan's world, but it was more than just the Percy Jackson series revisited. I enjoyed the multiple points of view and each of the three main characters, though Piper was my favorite (well, I once was a girl her age, and let's face it, a big part of me still is). The book was action-packed and filled with fun twists, and if I saw some coming, there were others I didn't expect till almost the last minute. I can't wait for the next book!

As I said about my previous book, The Exiled Queen, the problem with reading current series is that I have to wait to see what happens next! (me and patience? not so much) But apparently Riordan has both another book in the Kane Chronicles and the second book in this series coming out later this year. I just love that he's not only insanely prolific, but also consistently good. And in the meantime, I can start reading his adult mystery novels.
