Two Mondays ago, txduck recommended a mystery series by Julia Spencer-Fleming. The series is set in the small upstate New York town of Millers Kill ("kill" is an old Dutch word for creek or river and often used in that area, though it is certainly also apt as the setting for murder mysteries) and focuses primarily on the town's new Episcopal priest, ( Read more... )

Don't you just love clare and russ? I love that the stories take there time with the characters (clare and russ as well as others) thorough the books, and I think you are right... you seem to be supposed to be slightly uncomfortable wanting them to be together, considering their situation, because they are fighting to not fall for each other as well. Loved the part where russ realizes Episcopal priests don't have to be celibate and has one less road block to hide behind as far as his feelings go ( ... )

I adore Clare and Russ! They're such excellent characters. In fact, I'm kicking myself for getting so distracted with all of the stuff I wanted to put into this post that the paragraph about why I love Clare completely got lost (I'll add that shortly). There was just so much to say ( ... )

Also, I've been kind of obsessively listening to Dave Matthews' #41 since I read the second book. It was funny, because I hadn't listened to that song in years until about three weeks ago, when I made a "college favorites" playlist on my ipod. I came across that song, remembered that I'd once loved it even though I couldn't remember how it went, and after listening, decided that I'm still very fond of it. So it was an uncanny surprise but excellent timing that it was playing during that scene while Clare was hiding in the shower. And that made me realize that it's actually a great Clare/Russ song :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been wanting to find something new to read but didn't want to just randomly pick something from the mystery section. Now I have something good to look forward to. Yay!

You're very welcome! I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I have!

I agree about not wanting to pick randomly in the mystery section. Though I love the genre as a whole, some of them are just too violent and/or sensational for me. So I always prefer recommendations :)
