Castle 4x07 - Cops & Robbers

Nov 01, 2011 14:42

OK, how amazing was that episode?! I'm probably too excited for much coherence (apologies in advance for what I'm sure will be gratuitous use of italics), but here are some of the things I loved about it besides, you know, every single minute.

* When Castle called Beckett at the beginning, and she actually wanted him to come and help out with her paperwork! I mean, I know the paperwork would go faster if he helped, but I think she just wanted him to come spend more time with her. *melts*

* The robbers' doctor names? Awesome! Trapper John especially made me smile because a) I wasn't expecting them to go with a reference from a show from the 70s and b) M*A*S*H re-runs were a childhood favorite of mine.

* I love that Beckett didn't actually have any training in hostage negotiations and that she was nervous about it when she had to do it. I mean, I adore how badass and generally amazing she is, but I think it's great and realistic that she doesn't know how to do absolutely everything that every cop in every different department does. She's a homicide detective, and I like how they acknowledged that it's a different skill-set.

* That said, her vow of vengeance to Trapper John when he threatened Castle? Hell fuckin' yeah!

* Esposito to Ryan: "Hey, Castle Jr, could you maybe start thinking like a cop?" I laughed and laughed.

* Beckett's face when she heard the explosion and opened the door gave me chills.

* And oh, Beckett's face when she finds Castle! *swoons* And even when Martha reminds her that Castle isn't the only one there, Beckett can't take her eyes off Castle long enough to get through her first attempt at an apology! If that's not love...well, there's really no point in even finishing that thought, because it so totally is love. I don't think Martha will be asking her son about dating anyone other than Beckett again - not after watching that!

* And Castle knows it is, too. It was unmistakable. And while his teasing at the end about how many times they've saved each other's lives might have sounded like his old nine-year-old-on-a-sugar-rush self, I think it's actually quite the opposite. He knows what she's feeling, but he also knows that she's not quite ready to go there yet (though wow, is she getting closer all the time!), and he's steering the conversation back to safer territory until she is ready.

* The Castle family hug when everyone came out of the bank! ♥ And when Alexis looked over at Beckett? Given Alexis' fears at the beginning of the season, I think it was good for her to see that Beckett will do absolutely everything she can to keep Castle safe. I'm sure she knew it in her head, but that's not the same thing as watching it. It was a good moment for them. I've read so much fic that I sometimes forget Beckett and Alexis don't have quite as much direct interaction as I remember them having. I'd love to see more on the show.

* I also love that the end of the hostage situation wasn't the end of the case. It seems like that's usually the way it happens on TV, and it's just like the amazing Castle writers to give it a different twist.

(Question, though...when Beckett first got the photo of the murder victim's son-in-law on her phone, am I the only one who thought it was Trapper John? I am? Yeah, the part where I'm absolutely terrible with faces is just one of many reasons I would completely fail at being a cop.)

* And finally, though it wasn't exactly what I expected from those pictures released a few weeks ago, I love that the end scene included the whole family instead of just Castle and Beckett. It felt very right.

I loved it so much that I watched a few scenes again this morning, not even caring that it would make me late(r than usual) to work. I can't wait to watch the whole episode again! I may add to this list when I do, or as I remember stuff throughout the day :)
