2. I kind of love this. I'm not one for Christmasy-based schmoop (it seems like it's all been done before, and it's just an excuse to get someone's OTP to kiss beneath the mistletoe) but the longing in this is just exquisite; first for Castle to make Beckett feel included and Beckett's reasons as to why she hasn't, to steal from a popular phrase, had a reason for the season. I particularly love the end. Delicious. :)
As always, thanks for a great read, doll! Happy holidays!

2. I'm so happy you love this! I've never written Christmas fluff before (or much of any fluff, really), but with Beckett, I think holidays will always have to be somewhat bittersweet, which put me in more comfortable writing territory :)
Thanks, hon! Happy holidays to you too! ♥

And what a break it was. Man, you have no idea how much you've completely accidentally made this perfect. By this I mean there are so many little things that are completely personal that make this wonderful to me which you would have no way of knowing but man. (For example, we never had santa at all in my house - and Beckett's way of describing Christmas without santa rang so very true.) So good. Thank you thank you thank you.
She’s starting to trust what they’re becoming as much as what they’ve been.
That line was my most favourite!
Well I am just filled with glee right now. Thank you again. ♥

He knows he’s pushed as far as he should for the moment, so he resists the urge to tell her he loves her. But he can show her, and that’s enough for now.
^Favorite line.

I feel it's totally fitting that Castle watch Die Hard on Christmas. And I love her talking about her mother, the traditions, how it was pain free and carefree and good memories instead of murder and loss and regret. I can only hope that once they do eventually get together we FINALLY get a Christmas episode.
So deliciously good :)

And I'm glad you like the inclusion of Die Hard! It's actually one of my favorite Christmas movies.
And yes, a Castle Christmas episode would be fabulous! Especially if it meant that we wouldn't have to go so many weeks in December without a new ep! (Is it January yet?)

January isn't soon enough :( Except if it's January I have to go back to work, so December is good.

I too, lost my mother at an early age (14, but it was cancer not murder) so my Christmases were very bittersweet after that as I missed her very much. It wasn't until I met my husband and we started our family that we really began to develop Christmas traditions of our own, so this story really rings true for me. We also don't do Santa ... It was almost like you were reading my mind when writing this! (except for the Die Hard thng. I still don't really get that. I'm more of an old fashioned Alistair Sim version A Christmas Carol watcher. :). )
Thank you for this! It inspired me as well so I began a Christmas fic today too. Not Castle, unfortunately, but I'm enjoying writing it nonetheless. :)

I rewatched "He's Dead, She's Dead" a few weeks before signing up for this fic exchange, and their Santa Claus conversation made me smile. But also, given Beckett's conversation with her dad in "Sucker Punch," where Jim is talking about Johanna's devotion to the truth, it makes a lot of sense to me that she wouldn't have tried too hard to sell her daughter on Santa Claus. When Kate figured it out, I'm sure Johanna wouldn't have even tried to keep up the pretense. But from the brief glimpses of her childhood that Beckett has shared, I think Johanna would have loved Christmas with a strong and contagious enthusiasm.
*hugs*
