I really enjoyed the episode too. I think, in part perhaps, because I no longer expect to see anything shippy and just enjoy the humour more. I think Ryan and Esposito were the best part of the episode - as they often are in my opinion.
I participated in a discussion at safeword_apples the other day and the general opinion seems to be that there is little to no chemistry between Nathan and Stana anymore and that the "shippy" moments the writers are throwing us are merely a bone and don't really seem to mean much. The kiss at the end? Totally platonic. Not a spark in sight. Which makes me sad, but it's not unexpected I think. I hate to admit it but I think it's all-but over. The show may continue but the sexual tension and part of what made it irresistible to watch has disappeared. I, and quite a number of other people, don't actually WANT to see Beckett and Castle together anymore as it wouldn't be believable. I mean, compare this to Knockout -- Knockout had moments that were hot enough to sizzle the screen. The Blue Butterfly? Barely tepid

I totally agree that the kiss was disappointing compared with the Knockdown kiss, but I'm not giving up hope on Castle and Beckett. I don't think their chemistry is gone this season - Cops & Robbers was amazing and filled my fangirl heart with glee. It's true that the Blue Butterfly didn't entirely live up to my expectations, but I think at least part of that was because I was so excited for it that it couldn't realistically have lived up to my expectations. (Though I admit that Knockdown did, and I was even more bouncing-off-the-walls excited for that one...)
But this was a fun episode and I very much enjoyed watching all the pretty. And yeah, Ryan and Esposito really were the best part. It's always more fun when people in AU episodes are unexpectedly different than their canon character, which is also why I enjoyed Alexis/Sally :)
Well you'll have to be optimistic for the both of us then, because after watching Pandora last night, I'm pretty well convinced Castle and Beckett are a non-thing. Did you see the way he flirted with the agent? And how he was happy that Beckett was jealous? I can honestly say that her "jealousy" seemed rather forced to me, as if it were something she thought she should feel but didn't really. No sparks in that episode at all
