Castle 4x23 - Always

May 08, 2012 15:37

Sweet something of someplace, last night's Castle was amazing! *incoherent squeeing noises* I was so excited to watch it that I got a pen and paper to take notes, and I'm glad I did, because there was so much awesomeness that I could never have captured it all in one viewing. (I almost got up and watched it again at 6:30 this morning, but a cat sat down on my chest and reminded me that I really should go back to sleep.) So, my notes and then some thoughts:

* I was radioactive with glee from the very first moment with the Vertigo homage! Love and more love!! ♥
* Aww, a Castle/Beckett John Wu double feature!
* I love when they alter the title scene to fit the mood of the episode, especially because they only do it occasionally, and the tornado sky? Brilliant. A brewing storm indeed...
* Esposito looked damn sharp in that pinstriped suit!
* I love Ryan's practicality, but I also love Espo's unshakable and absolute loyalty to Beckett. They're really both right. (To clarify, I wrote this early in the ep, just after Beckett told them not to tell Gates.)
* Oh, the scene in her apartment! It was a beautiful call-back to the scene in "Knockout," when they first talked about the things they never talk about. This conversation blew that one out of the water, and as heartbreaking as it was, it was also just so, so perfect it gave me chills.
* I'm so glad they had Castle tell her about the deal he made instead of having her find out accidentally. I've been worried about that all season, but they made it work so well.
* We finally saw Johanna's grave!
* Holy shit, Helo! Between BSG and Dollhouse, I've only ever seen him play a good guy, but he was an awesome badass motherfucker villain.
* My heart just ached for Ryan and Esposito. Because they really were both right in their own way...
* Beckett went back to the swings! *tears up*
* The end of Alexis' speech really was a little much...

And then my brain kerploded in the best possible way and I couldn't look away from the screen long enough to take anymore notes. I had insanely high hopes for that scene, and it was even better! I can't wait for the talented folks to start making GIFs...and perhaps they already have! (I wanted to get this all down before reading what the flist has to say.)

And they're not going to be apart this summer!

My fangirl heart overflowed with joy, and that would absolutely have been enough, but I think it's even better that they ended the episode on an ominous note after all.

And the thing is, as glorious as the scene in Castle's apartment was, it was even better because the episode was so brilliant all the way through. Damn, I just can't wait to watch it all again! And again, and again...
