What the hell is with the new LJ app? First of all, I haven't even installed any updates since my last post on Monday, which was most definitely the version of the app I was used to. And yet, today, there was a new icon and that post-update-hasn't-yet-been-used dot next to it ( Read more... )

The only thing I'd wanted them to change about the app was to give us the ability to edit posts or comments...and we still can't. Boo, indeed.

And I can't even use my angry Bender icon!

I think LJ changed some things without telling us, as my journal (as viewed on my computer) has changed and even going into "change page setup" doesn't do anything.

I have always really liked LJ, the ability it gives me to blog and connect with people, but I don't like what they've been doing the past couple of years, changing things just to make them look and seem like other social media. They take away useful functionality, don't add anything, and end up breaking stuff that used to work. Boo is right!

That's exactly it. I know they have lots a lot of users to FB and Tumblr, but the solution isn't to try to turn LJ into those sites. Those already exist and don't need copies, and for many of us, there's a reason we use LJ in addition to or instead of those. It's very frustrating.

(But this is a rare occasion when I can use an computer, so here's that fall icon I wanted to use earlier.)

It truly is frustrating.

Though it's interesting - I was reading the other day about the newest social media site, ello I think it's called?, and it seems a lot like LJ so maybe people are moving more away from FB and from things like Twitter which really don't allow you to express yourself properly. I'm hoping anyway. I think it can only do society a favour to get back to REAL communication between people, even if online rather than face to face. A good mix of both is ideal I think, if you can manage it.

Also, painfully slow. It's more useable than FB, but less so by the day.

Yes, indeed. Trying to turn it into FB, or perhaps Tumblr (though I don't know because I don't use that) isn't helping. *grumble*
