Don't worry - you'll soon get the hang of it. I blundered around for ages when I first got an account - we all do *g*

And you're showing up fine on my friends' page, so you're doing great!

Waving hello also! I got off work unexpectedly early, hence I am here in my usual hangout :-).

Don't worry about getting the hang of it all at once. I well remember how hard it was when I first started - it took me a while to learn the ropes too. You'll have helful people lining up, though, to steer you right. Just do a bit at a time, and don't be afraid to ask!

I will try to get some useful info together for you either tonight or tomorrow. I have loads of useful links stashed away somewhere, and I'm always happy to advise if you have specific questions.

Most of all, though, welcome! You're very brave to take the plunge :-)

You've added everyone just fine now, don't worry! Fancying up your page takes time; mine's just a bog standard layout and after years here I don't have a clue how to add a banner and whatnot ::g::

Hi, Sheila,

It's really nice to see you here. I think of Sentinel_Betas every once in a while and it always makes me smile.

Don't worry about doing too much at once. Even if you only check your Friends page once or twice a week and leave a comment occasionally it still counts! Once you are used to that then you can branch out and try other stuff that looks interesting to you. I lurked on LJ for almost a year and only used my account to post stories on sentinel_thurs. I didn't even 'friend' anyone, just went to sentinel_thurs and read from the member friends list. I couldn't see locked posts but it gave me an easy, lurker-ish way to watch what was going on in TS fandom.

Eventually I made a post in my own journal and someone replied and that broke the ice. I still have periods where I don't post anything but then I'll have a spurt of sociability. :-) LJ works best when you figure out how it suits you to use it. So welcome and good luck!

Yeah, it was a pity that Sentinel_Betas sort of bit the dust. I wonder why? It was a really good list.

It really was; we had so much fun. :-) I couldn't have had a better introduction to on-line fannish interaction.

Well, I think some of the regulars drifted away to LJ or other fandoms and there wasn't enough new blood coming in. I know that I got tired of betaing for folks who never seemed to take their turn, so that all the beta work landed on a few people's shoulders.

On LJ, you just ask if anyone on your friend list would be willing to beta if you don't have a regular. But there isn't anything equivalent to the list on LJ. I do have the link to sen_beta on my website but maybe it wouldn't hurt to plug the site on ts_news? If you're interested in trying to revive it, that is.

Actually, I do have two regular betas, one for content and the other for catching Briticisms.

I'm not sure I want to revive Sen_betas. It was fun, but you're right, it was the same few of us who did all the work. But actually I do have an old story I wouldn't mind some comments on... it was in a zine, right enough, but I was never happy with it and never posted it. I might get around to posting it here one of these years.
