I'm back from my two weeks in the Arizona/Sonora border. It was intense. We met with The Minutemen, Border Patrol, No Mas Muertes, Derechos Humanos and other groups, talked to migrants in Altar, Agua Prieta, and the ambos Nogales, stayed in churches and migrant shelters and we're all still processing. We were led by The Minutement through a migrant trail and were shown all the evidence of their trips--hundreds of backpacks, pairs of pants, changes of sweaters and teeshirts, make up kits, pads and bible passages.

Wow, intense. Also sounds like the seeds for a great art project-- though it's probably already been done. (heh I'm writing some BSy paper about a Chicana political artist at the moment so that's the first thought I had... That this could show up in one of her poems.)
