HMOs

When I left my job in 2008, one of my biggest fears was "Will I need insurance?" I was quite happy with my PPO insurance through InCharge (and earlier, the "pretty much everything's covered" dot-com insurance at Citrix). That's great, but I would be careful what you mention in your phone calls with these nurses. They are collecting data that could potentially be used against you in future claims.

I got a call from one of these nurses (from Cigna) telling me they could offer me help then started asking me if I have ever been diagnosed with fibromyalga because I had a lyrica prescriptions. I ended the call. I know it seems innocuous but I just don't trust them. A call out of the blue?

Anyway, take advantage but be wary.

Not sure what they'd be able to get out of me besides what they already know (I have MS) based on the tests and prescriptions they approved, other than "already eats like a hippie" and "now does yoga".

Wouldn't they know if you had fibromyalgia based on their own records?

It's not that I'm skeptical of what you're saying, it's just that I don't understand how they could use it against me.

I've always prefered the Cigna HMP offered by my company to the PPO. This year, they eliminated the HMP from their insurance offerings. Thankfully, I'm not the proud recipient of almost socialized medicine as I get to see doctors on the Air Force Base for free and even have my outside referals paid for.
