But Jesus wasn't even born in Winter. It was set up to be the 25th (depending on branch of christianity; others under the Old Julian calender celebrate Christmas January 7th Gregorian) of December because the Romans started an annual celebration of Saturn on the 17th. A week of festivities, and then the winter solstice, which, under the Julian calendar system, fell on the 25th. Celebration then continued on to January 1. Some Romans also celerated the sun god, Sol Invictus, on the 25th. Since Constantine, the "first Christian Roman Emperor", was a follower of Sol Invictus before converting, he put a festival day for Christ's birthday on a convenient day. Or something along those lines.

And Jesus set aside a rememberance for his death, usually called the Lord's Supper ( ... )
