i managed to install my hard drive all by myself. i'm quite proud. granted when they ask me things like, "did you install your ethernet?" and i'm going "huh? i put in all the disks i had." i felt like an idiot, but i eventually got everything up and running again. now to try and find all those lovely sites that i once had bookmarked ( Read more... )

Oi Blue! Wondered what happened to ya. *hugzz*

And a 10 gig? That's what my old gateway had that died. So not much space. >.> Id like to get a external HD, myself. Maybe I can give this one back to The Son, hehe. He can only hope. :P

And kitty babies! I love em - as do The Son - but they make it hard for me to breath anymore. So all I have now am a Baka. :D

the 80GB is a HUGE help! i can put my music software on it AND my camera!
but i'm missing things...i think they might be on the old drive, but i swear i had about 4 pics of the baby and i can't find them. i have them printed out, not great quality, but i should be able to scan them back in and fix them. i can even put my old photo software on it!

Ung! Back before all this *waves at self* went on Id have been able to fix something on own... but not anymore, which leaves me to seeking help from not so reputable experts that all they end up doing is removing programs they shouldn't and end up making matters worse!
Like I have a cam here, some wheres, but all it does is come up black when hooked up. Dunno whats up with that one.
But would love to see the babies piccies when you're able to get em going tho. ;)

Good for you girl. I've done it in desktops before, but never in a laptop...

Duncan, the dunkin' donut. I like it!

it was in a PC i just happened to have stolen the HD from an old laptop. which could be why it hummed. this one is so quiet! i think laptops are easier only because everything just fits, no screwdrivers necessary!

and duncan is a little hellion! he was out of his basket yet again this morning. he's gonna get eaten if he doesn't watch out!

You're my hero. :P I have replaced memory and DVD drives in mine. That's about it. Uh, hard drive and memory cards are different things, right? See, hardware (at least not computer hardware ... heh) is not my forte.

Dunkin Donut. *snickers* That's too cute!!

i couldn't get my internet to come back up when i thought i had everything installed (even though i couldn't get my monitor passed the GIGANTIC size) and i think she thought i was an idiot because she was asking if i installed all this stuff and i was just like "uhh... i don't even know what that is."

i found the disk i needed ten minutes later and realized i had to install each part individually for it to work. she was probably wondering how i managed to get my hands on a HD in the first place. i can fix it, i just have no idea of any of the terms that people use.

Once you get yourself online you can ask anything you want and you'll find someone who has a solution.

It's easy to install a hard drive (I couldn't believe you just plug the things in) but the rest of it can be pretty complicated, as you have found out. Make sure before you do anything else to update your Windows. Restart every chance you get and keep re-checking update until it comes up with nothing.

If you have Office, update that as well. Shut down. Start the regular way. Also be sure to check to see if an update is available for your graphics card. If you get jammed up I can help. All I seem to do is install Windows.

My Internet always comes up automatically, so I'm not much good there. *hangs head in shame* Well done you! That's a neat feeling, isn't it?

once i had the internet back up (i still can't get those two little monitors on the bottom right hand of my task bar, next to my clock) i got the anti-virus and updated windows and my adobe stuff and it's such a happy machine now.

i just couldn't believe how many times i had to shut down and restart though. there should be a better way.

and i think i pulled a small dust puppy out of my CPU. gotta remember to clean that thing more often...
