[With things settled down amongst his 'young friends' from the past, or so he thinks anyway, Palom is all too content to spend his time in Luceti either reading... which he does a lot, or just casting magical spells until he gets bored. It's good practice and he's trying his hardest to see if he can manipulate his spells to use up more mana in ( Read more... )

he needs better outlets for his magic, [action]

[Rydia's walking back from the Welcome Center instead of warping home, when she catches sight of those bolts of lightning. At first concerned that there's a combat or duel taking place, she quickens her pace only to see that it's simply Palom at work. She then crosses her arms and hangs back to watch his magic, curious to see how he's improved over the years.]

[He hasn't invented any new spells that didn't exist in Mysidia for centuries before. However his magic has improved in finesse and control. Clearly there's no apparently improvement in strength, thanks to the power cap. He's looking a bit frustrated about that after casting another Thundaga into the river.]

[A sympathetic expression forms. She remembers her own initial practice-time in Luceti very well.]

Frustrating, isn't it?

[Please, Rydia. He hardly needs your sympathy.]

To some extent, yes. [He walks a bit away and sets himself on the ground, grabbing a book and scribbling his latest results into it.] You would have thought the Mysdian elders would have bothered to include more theory into our lessons and less tradition.

[He'll continue firing off a few more spells, this time a power meteor attack that call forth several large fiery rocks from the sky. They all crash splendidly into the river, causing massive damage to the fish. And a spell like that deserves a dramatic walkaway, which he does as he walks away dusting his hands off. Oh, hello.]

Enjoyed that, did we?

[Helloooooooo, ego.]

Almost as good as fireworks.

[Have an indignant snort.]

Please. Fireworks are for stage show magicians.

[Kain approaches the area, drawn by the sight of someone shooting off magic. ...He should have figured it was Palom. He stays there a moment anyway, to see what he's up to.]

[He blasts off another Blizzaga, then watches in mild disinterest as the chunk of ice goes floating down the river.]

Meh... still not quite right.

[Kain stands there another moment with arms crossed, before he comes close enough to tap him on the shoulder and hold up a message. Not that he's asking because he particularly cares, he just wonders what the issue is.]

Problem?

[Palom glances over his shoulder, not quite ready to attack or anything. He's a squishy mage, he doesn't do that. He does relax, only so slightly, to see it's Kain. Oh, and a message.]

Yes. The power reduction is proving to be problematic. Attempting to alter the incantations to increase the mana transference to equalize previous results has proved fruitless so far. I'm merely taxing more energy without yielding better results.

[ Don't mind Helios he's just out for a bit of extremely long stroll. Those bolts of lightning certainly catch his attention though and stop him on his way back towards the village were those comets as well? He's never seen spells preformed like that in his world before so hope you don't mind if you have a derpy audience watching you Palom. ]

[By all means, enjoy yourself. However the next Firaga spells doesn't go exactly as planned and ends up with a massive inferno over the river. Fortunately the water absorbs most of it, causing the entire area to be surrounded in a thick mist for now. Palom himself was knocked off his feet by the blast, but is otherwise fine... if not annoyed.]

[ Oh dear that didn't go as planned did it? Anyway Helios will make his way over towards you now because he a bit concerned. This mist isn't helping as so he'll use a minor wind spell to clear some it, you might even see his eyes glow a little through the mist. ] That was fantastic! Fire spells always are bit tricky especially here! [ A laugh because he's blown himself up before. Derp. He'll offer out a hand to help you up when he's next to you a small smile on his features. ] Are you all right?

[Oh great, his blunder was witnessed. He gives an annoyed glare before at last taking his hand and standing.]

I'll be fine. It seems I put a little too much into that last spell.

[Ceodore's out for a walk to blow off some energy. He's still more or less stewing on the news from the twins and waffling between disbelief and wanting to smack Kain upside the head with one of his mother's staves. The tell-tale signs of magic casting can be seen at a distance and he hurries in that direction to see what's going on.

Only Palom casting, or so it looks like.]

Practicing?

[He's in between spells at the moment, jotting down notes. He doesn't turn back when he hears Ceodore's voice.]

Experimenting, actually.

[Ceodore walks over and peers at the notes. Palom's a much better student of magic than he is. For the most part Ceodore just learns as he goes and doesn't think much about the hows or whys spells work.]

On what?

[Palom would very much like to invent his own spells some day. Not just ones that have existed for centuries.]

Magic, of course. I'm attempting to alter the spells to be more powerful, in order to counteract the reduced power I have here.
