So, it's been a year since my first day at Promega. I can't believe it's already been that long. I've definitely enjoyed the work so far, but living away from Chris (and living out of a suitcase) for a year is starting to take its toll on me. I sincerely hope the house sells soon, as I'm getting really sick of living like this ( Read more... )

I agree... we could have bought a larger house three years ago on a low variable rate. Instead, we settled for modest at what we could afford and made it work for us. I think the government could find better places to spend their money.

Yes, there are definitely better places for the money to go. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this is giving irresponsible people an easy way out.

That is very true that there are some frightening differences in housing markets. I know some people in the San Jose area who spent well over 3 times as much on their house as we did on ours (and theirs is a ranch with no basement). It's a bit crazy.

But, on the other hand, it still seems that people should be able to calculate how much they can afford to spend (and should do a little bit of research into taxes, interest, etc.). It's just making things worse for everyone.

Agreed. No bailouts. People who buy more than they can afford also increase the cost of housing for everyone else by adding to the real estate bubble.

Without some pain, nobody learns a lesson. Real estate speculators, lenders, and sub-prime borrowers all need to learn something from this.

What scares about all of this is that there are a lot of people out there who will not learn their lessons, unfortunately. I think they'll see a free handout from the government, take it, and then fall right back into even more debt.

Congrats on your year at Promega! I'm sorry to hear about the stress of being apart from C and not having a proper home per se, but I'm so glad that you found a job you love and that you seem to be content there.

Fingers still crossed about the house. Did you try burying St Joseph yet?

Thanks! I'm very happy about the job too, but it's been a tough year. C and I have both grown a lot, which has been painful but overall has been good for both of us.

Thanks for the good luck wishes on the house. I keep forgetting about St. Joseph . . . I'll have to take care of that soon. We need all the help we can get.

One more thing... fabmarta June 25 2008, 22:25:01 UTC
If I understand this legislation correctly, it really only bails out the banks, and doesn't really help John Q. Public.
Even so, I agree with what you are saying.
Congrats on the year!

Thanks!

Yeah, I don't understand everything about it, but it still seems like the government is coming to the aid of the people who have been screwed by other people's irrseponsible spending. It's one of those "what do I get for being good" whiny moments. :)
