The small things at the Bishop's Palace in Wells

I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately. I have tried to keep up with what everyone's doing though, so I haven't been completely absent. There are a number of reasons, the biggest being that I really haven't had much to say. The weather, on the whole, hasn't been that great and I haven't been out and about. Not being out and about tends to ( Read more... )

Great! I especially love that bridge over water - such a mild romantic feeling...

So many of your photos would make amazing wall-sized framed pictures. I really love the first two. And all of the ones with the Gothic arches (cloisters? I'm terrible at religious terms...). They remind me of college. :)

(And I'm also impressed by that very British boy standing there calmly looking at the tiny waterfall, in contemplative peace. I'm used to seeing children that behave like midget drunks and screech and run all over while bleeding on everything.)

It's funny. I'm very polite and patient when I'm going around somewhere like this - well, I would be, wouldn't I. I don't get flustered by people walking through my shot, or standing admiring something when they're in my way. I waited several minutes for the boy to move on, but he seemed transfixed by the little waterfall. Then it occurred to me that, actually, it was a better image with him in it - and I was right.

Presumably, those American children only bleed when you punch them hard enough!

Thank you so much for liking my photos.

I love your pictures because of that. t\This picture is lovely not just because how you focused on the foliage, but because you can see this blurred essence of Britishness in the gentleman sitting on the bench. I remembered being frustrated I couldn't get 'better' pictures of Oxford because of how crowded it was, but then I saw the picture of some old clock/fortress thing (that's probably an awkward way of describing it!) with a cyclist making a turn right in front of it. It was my favourite picture of that trip. :)

Oh, you don't need to do any of the dirty work to have the kids banging their eye off sharp corners and stones, and bleeding all over the place - they do that to each other, while playing their favourite game of 'torturing the weakest link in the group'. There are many jokes about those ridiculous kiddie-leashes you see mostly Americans with, but perhaps they're a good idea after all...

Interesting you should mention the, as my Russian friend called them when she came to stay, 'leads for children'. She bought one for her six year old daughter to take back to Saint Petersburg. I think it went down well.

Taking photos can be really frustrating sometimes, often, but I find that there always seems to be some hidden gem when you're looking through them afterwards. Something you hadn't actually seen when taking the photo. Or perhaps that's just me being completely unobservant and stupid. I don't mind, it still works! :))
