1) Is there something about online dating in general that tends to attract more STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) men, or is it me? I get a lot of messages from dudes who are computer scientists or mathematicians. Which is a shame, because I really do find that I have better communication with guys with a liberal arts or fine arts ( Read more... )

Re: #2, I think both are. I started to say, "kinky is something you don't imagine your parents doing," then I remembered that a lot of my friends now have kids and that kind of scratched that definition. Kinky changes meaning depending on who uses it. It's flexibility is one of its charms.

1) I would guess yes - more comfortable with online formats, (though some of that has gone away) and a [stereotypical] dislike for traditional venues for interacting and thus meeting people probably lends itself to that.

2)I'd call that kinky, but I tend to be fairly broad in my overarching definition of "kink". Hell, I don't consider a little breath play, a little bit of power dynamic all that kinky - but I know I'm a deviation or two beyond the norm. Doesn't matter whether it is the exhibitionism/risk of doing in public, the violation of societal norms, or the dominance aspects, it is still kinky.

Very kinky? Not really. But kinky? Sure, I'll throw that in the big tent.

1) I know i'm coming from a way biased background, but both the guys and girls i knew from WPI were fans of online sites. Since there aren't as many women in STEM fields, and in some stereotypical geek social activities, dating sites are a logical place to go.

2) i use kinky as a general catchall to mean any sexual practice deviating from the societal norms, where 'societal norms' can carry to specific sectors of society when needed. So something might be kinky in a broad context, but no big deal in a more specific group of people. I personally tend to use kinky as a shorthand label for when i'm writing bios and whatnot rather than list out the specifics when they are not relevant.
