Is there a straight equivalent of Sarah Waters or Emma Donoghue? Don't get me wrong I love, love their works very much but I hate having to resort to fanfiction (hello prufrock's love and athena88) for great het stories all the time. Excuse you! Mills and Boon is very het okay? It has caveman/playboy who does all sorts of things and then expects the woman to virginal and she is and she's stunning;y beautiful too in addition to being virginal stuff and on top of all of that, she takes the caveman back even after he casts all sorts of imaginary slurs on her virtue. Sigh. My disillusionment runs deep.

Read Gerogette Heyer! She does Regency romances excellently. It's all wit and banter and kickass heroines. Set of course in the 1800's.

But I agree. There's a stunning lack of decent romance het stories and I'm kind of tired of reading about corny stuff. Need some depth and preferably with some ordinary people.
