APPEARANCE: Marin is full-Japanese and stands at an average height of 5'4". She has tanned skin from all the days she spent running in daylight. She has smooth, straight black hair, though some of her locks make a single wave near the ends, causing the tips of her hair to curl upwards, excluding her short bangs, which sometimes shelter dark brown eyes.

As for her build, Marin doesn't carry anything different than the average 15-year-old female other than the structure of her legs. She doesn't have extreme muscles bulging out of her calves, but by the way her legs are shaped, it's obvious that she's a runner.

Most of her wardrobe consists of logo tees and solid-colored blouses, and denim shorts- very simple and very basic.

Her PB will be Misaki Ayuzawa from Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
PERSONALITY: Marin is very modest, both in appearance and in demeanor. She's coy to a fault, and it shows through her facial expressions and body motions while she communicates with others. In any given situation where she must talk to someone she's unfamiliar with, her shoulders are always perked, her lips are constantly quivering, and she often gets tongue-tied. She keeps her speech curt while quietly adding additional notes to herself if she needs to speak, otherwise she won't say anything at all. When she does talk, she will flip the fuck out over anything that she perceives to be a sign of annoyance from the other party. The girl lacks the ability to talk to others, and that's why people don't like to approach her.

In all honesty, it's not that Marin wants to be as apprehensive as she is. Marin simply doesn't know how to communicate with others face-to-face. She's afraid of any form of negative reception, whether it be criticism on her appearance or her personality, and had decided somewhere in her early childhood that the best way to avoid such judgments would be to keep to herself so others won't notice her.

However, there is one way to get Marin to hold a conversation with you: via text. Oddly enough, Marin is completely comfortable expressing her thoughts over the internet- Intranet in this case- text messaging, any setting where she doesn't need to show her face. She's a little more of a social butterfly than she is in person. The person she is online is the person she aspires to be in reality, because talking to others through a keyboard seems to be the only way she can make any sort of connection with anyone.

But beyond the keyboard and past the insecurities lies a compassionate being with a lot of heart. Marin is almost an entirely different person towards her friends, and will act much more outgoing and enthusiastic than how she normally is towards strangers. Also, if there's a reason for any hostile behavior towards her, she'll blame it on herself. This isn't to say that she isn't at least a little awkward around her comrades, but she is definitely more open and much more pleasant to be around. It isn't hard to befriend her, as long as you can break past her paranoia and show that you're a nice person. She's very dedicated when it comes to doing something, whether it be for herself or for someone else, and will commit to whatever task it may be as long as her heart's up for it.

Other than companionship, Marin also seeks solace within running. Running allows her to take her mind off of any overwhelming situations, and it gives her an opportunity to be happy. It's the one thing she's good at, and if given a chance to join a cross country team at Reims, she'd join in a heartbeat, despite her uneasiness around others.

The first downside to Marin's "real" demeanor, if you will, is that she's awfully naive. She has extreme difficulty mistrusting others whom she's already established healthy relationships with; if such a person betrays her, Marin can't bring herself to hold a grudge, and will most often forgive them and will restore her trust in them completely. Depending on the person, this could cause her to get hurt emotionally repetitively, and it makes her an easy target. She's not very hard to manipulate. Use the right words and you've got her on a string.

The other downside to Marin is that she lacks self-confidence. She will mentally put herself down whenever a reason to arises. She's self-conscious about every aspect of her very being, and for this reason will often end up asking those who she's comfortable with to critique her physical appearance and her behavior. It may prove to be annoying, and it may seem as though she's only fishing for compliments; however, the latter is not the case, for Marin is fishing for her inconsistencies so that she can better improve herself. She's much too worried about what others think of her, instead of being comfortable in her own skin.

ABILITIES: Marin is a bilingual Japanese and English speaker, though she is notably more fluent in English since she was born and raised in America. However, she does know a good amount of the former language since she and her parents occasionally communicate in Japanese. She is also an exceptional runner, having trained intensively in her middle school days.

It should be noted that Marin is able to use a computer for basic necessities- surfing the net, writing documents, and the like. However, she is in no way a hacker, and probably wouldn't be able to master the art of hacking to save her life. Ever.

AU HISTORY: Somewhere in America, there was a cramped apartment complex that fostered a family of five: a father, a mother, a son, and two daughters- one a preteen, and one an infant. This was the Yamasaki family. The infant, Marin, began her life living as a member of a middle-class family.

Marin's parents, Yoshio and Tomiko Yamasaki, were born in Japan and had only moved to America ten years prior to Marin's birth to seek new experiences. As a result of this, Marin's primary language was Japanese, taught to her by her mother. However, her father was a salesman and had taken intensive English language courses back in Japan to become more qualified to work in America, so he was responsible for giving Marin basic English-speaking skills. From her parents' teachings, Marin became both an English and a Japanese speaker in her early childhood (though she was nowhere near fluent in either, of course).

When Marin came of age, her parents enrolled her in an elementary school a few blocks away from home. She would then learn to adapt to an English-speaking environment, since this was the language that all of her teachers and peers utilized. However, Marin was often mute at school, and did not talk to others due to her shy nature. As a result, she was often subject to bullying because she was often seen as weak. An easy target.

The most unfortunate part about all of this was that although Marin longed for companionship, it was hard for her to really connect with others because of her shyness. She wanted to become friends with all of the kinder students, she really did, but her fear of being threatened and laughed at made her shy away from taking risks. She only really had her siblings to confide in as comrades, and though she could open up to them, they were always too busy with schoolwork and other miscellaneous activities to spend much time with her.

Ironically enough, though Marin lacked companions, the bullying was the main contributing factor to her newfound passion for running. Because she would often find herself fleeing whenever she saw said bullies from a distance, she would run great distances to keep herself out of danger. Strangely enough, running made her feel... invincible, as if they'd never be able to catch her. Eventually, as Marin grew older and felt more pressures from school, she saw running as the most efficient way to relieve her stress.

Her passion for running enabled her into joining her intermediate school's cross country team. Although she was still very hesitant to socialize, she was accepted by her team for being commendably committed, and for having one of the fastest times. Her team's compliments are what lead her into making her first set of friends. Strangely enough though, while she was able to say a few words to them in person, she communicated with them the most via instant messaging, which is how they came to see the girl beyond the flustered face. After establishing friendships over the internet, Marin came to the revelation that communicating with others via messaging would be the best way for her to talk to others.

After intermediate school, Marin decided to continue to do cross country. Initially her parents were iffy about the idea of sending her to a school solely for cross country- they preferred to enroll her in a school that accelerated in academics. Later, they heard of Reims Academy through word of mouth. After concluding that Reims was a very well-rounded school, Marin's parents agreed to give her the opportunity to attend the renown academy, though under the condition that she find a way to earn the money to pay for tuition. And what better way to earn money than scholarships?

And surely enough Marin earned a full ride to Reims for her cross country records. With that, she headed to Reims Academy just before her MS3 year began.

SAMPLES
INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE: hello everyone. i'm very sorry to be bothering all of you... but if you ever stumble across a pair of running shoes somewhere on campus please let me know. ah i already went to the lost and found but they didn't have my shoes.

the brand of my shoes is mike and they're white, save for the logo which is black. the shoelaces are also white. umm they should be in a yellow plastic bag and i just lost them today. don't go looking for them or anything please, just if you run into them or something you may let me know.

thank you for your time :)
LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE: The thought of having to share a room with another student almost gives Marin an anxiety attack. Oh, that would be awkward. Her roommate will hate her, won't she? She'll hate Marin so much that she'll request to switch out into another room.

Marin muses that she'll probably go through at least 10 roommates before finding someone who can tolerate her strange behavior. Ah, this would be unfortunate. She can't bring herself to turn the knob and enter her new room just yet; she's shaking at the knees just thinking about how this whole rooming experience will turn out. Her palms turn clammy as they clench on the handles of her suitcases, quivering so prominently that anyone would be able to notice from a far distance.

But she can't stand outside forever. She knows this. There's a voice that resonates in her conscience telling her to suck it up and open the door.

A shaking hand releases a suitcase reaches out to the metallic handle, resting on the knob for a few moments before finally twisting it--

... There's no one inside.

She takes a deep breath of relief and steps inside. It's quite nice inside; small, but homey. But she doesn't have time to admire the furniture, because she needs to prepare herself for her roommate's arrival. She doesn't want to make herself look stupid; that would be an interesting way to start off the new school year.
