I don't know that there's anything irrational about thinking that someone who was *ever* capable of simply not noticing that torturing and killing innocents is deeply morally wrong and socially repugnant is not hero material. And I don't believe in a god, myself, so I tend to think that redemption is largely about contracts with, and relationships with, other beings. If Michael Vick had achieved any sort of redemption for his past, it would show in his actions toward others.

But it may be worth noting that I don't give a damn about football, and I do love dogs. I know what devoted, faithful, sweet-souled creatures bully breed dogs can be, so I kinda wish that I believed in Hell just so I could be confident that Michael Vick would burn there. And that, I grant you, is irrational.
