well this is an interesting story in the news right now... why is it that you can name your child mohamad but not a toy? right now in sudan there is a western teacher being held in prison, for 15 days, for allowing her students to name a teddy bear. the child who named it did so after his own name. if in the muslam culture you can not depict ( Read more... )

actually if you read the last weeks articles on the story mobs of people gathered outside where she was being held. carrying macheties, knives and guns chanting kill her. that the sentance was to short she needed to die. i just tryed to find the actual article where they have the mobs and what they were chanting but i am comp illiterate and cant find it again. i will keep looking so i can show you. also the 15 days was the first of the sentence there also could have been 40 lashes depertation and 6 months in jail as well. but as i read it today it looks as though they are going to let her go with just the 15 days and not have the rest of the unpleasantries.

the spainish do it all the time naming kids jesus and when i worked in the daycare they had toys named the same. but no one seemed to care.
this whole thing is just bizarre to me thats all.

its a misunderstaning on the part of the sudanese government, if that is actually what happened with the bear. they are under the impression that the bear was meant to be an image of mohammed. naming your child that is different because your child is a human being, not an image. email me for deatils, i can try and explain it a bit further.

- sips tea - ya know...I have been thinking...I think I would like a pet hagfish or perhaps sea-urchin...They are such wonderful creatures...I think I will have both. Yes. I shall do just that. One of these creatures created by the divine God shall be called Jesus. The other creature of the illustrious and ever wise Allah shall be called Mohammed.

I shall love and care for my beloved pet hagfish as I shall love and care for my darling sea-urchin. And the names of Jesus and Mohammed shall be held in honour always in reverant reference to these creation not of my own imperfect hand but of the Divine's own loving and noble...you get the point.
