Week 14 is up at 52 Weeks. I'm pretty sure I'm not cut out for NaNoWriMo. I only have around 3000 words and we're more than a quarter into November

Sure, it's your fault that you haven't done 18 billion things and made sure every second of your life is packed with creative work. There's nothing wrong with that. You could drive yourself absolutely insane and ruin your health by keeping that kind of schedule, but it's perfectly okay to space things out; work on your life now, your work, being happy making married life with your girl; not all of your goals have to be accomplished at once. There's lots of life ahead of you.
As for the specific issue of advancing at work when you don't know when you'll leave, I'd go for it - you're not keeping leaving a secret, you just honestly don't know, so assume you'll be there a bit longer and do what you can with what you have.
I think I probably know all that back in my head somewhere, but sometimes the realism gets covered up by... grumpy bunnies... or something.
I should just put some things on hold and accept that. I think the main problem is that I'm worried that I'll never get back to those things or that I'll lose the skills I've gained in those areas.
I guess the thing to remember is that skills can be relearned.
And as for work, I'm talking to my boss Wednesday to find out more.
Saj is right. if you packed your days so full that you never got to see your wonderful wide, then maybe you'd feel more productive... but would it be worth it

Thanks Mol. Like Saj, you have good reminders to offer. I certainly don't want to lose anymore time with Kate. With her shift work we already see each other less than I'd like.
And thanks for the words on NaNoWriMo. I just need to get into the swing of writing every day. I find that hard.
I hope you get your interviews! And if you do (fingers crossed), then best of luck on 'em. ( :
