As for the better myself part, I intend it in my own eyes. In the judgement I pass on myself. I need to do certain things to show myself I've acheived a few things in life. It's not materialistic, nor spiritualistic. It's mostly, in my opinion, just about my pride. I moved out before into circumstances that weren't planned, weren't feasible with a person not to be trusted with responsibility. That's all that I was unhappy about with moving out then ( ... )

Reading is fun!

Not much of your own words to comment on, but a few questions for sid.

Morality doesn't really necessitate a God, as Buddhism doesn't have a God but still practice morality. Actually seems to be a major block of the religion itself. You can have good morals and not be religious at all. Sure you can say that practicing them means that you want to be right with God when you pass on, but I like to think it's older than that and it is basic instinct. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you just seems like common sense to me.

Also, if the bible states that the heart is untrustworthy does that mean reasoning is more trustworthy? It seems that the more people reason the less they believe in God. I'm in no way trying to challenge your beliefs, so please don't take it as such, I'm just trying to broaden my understanding.

Buddhists don't not believe in a god (double negative you know) but there are sects that certainly believe in gods. Buddha, in contrast to Christ, refused to comment on who god was; after all, being enlightened means you escape hell (reincarnation in the physical realm) and reach heaven. Buddhist is quite inconsistant in it's view of this because it has no specific view of god ( ... )

If I cared at all about this conversation, as Sid pointed out my apathy for it earlier, I'd join in. But I do enjoy reading the good points you've both made. ^^
