I'm not a serious 'foodie' but I play one on a limited budget. I like good food, good value and small mom n' pop kinds of places rather than chain restaurants.
eisenhund has encouraged me in my growing foddie-ness and accompanies me on many of our journeys. Last night while trying out Bokitas, a new tapas place, we discussed a
spork rating system.
Why sporks? ... because they're really fun and cute.
0 - Not going back, you can't make me, We're really sorry we went. (Neon Palm)
0.5 - oh, please let's not. (Waffle House)
1 - If we've got a coupon or it is just super convenient, "eh" (HdH, Sidelines, Steak n Shake)
2 - Average food, decent service, but it doesn't stand out. Default place we'll both eat with two sporks in; or it seems better if its open late (La Parilla, corporate chain restaurants, Ihop)
3 - We'll go a little out of our way, "Yes, please, Yum!" with consistently good service; a favorites kind of place where familiarity does not breed contempt. They need to make no apologies. (Old Spag Fag; J. Christopher's is at 3.5)
4 - A special or unique place; worth the drive; something you look forward to or to taking someone new there; different or an experience place (AFM 4.5; Bokitas)
5 - Transcendent Foodie-gasm w/ perfect food (Emeril's)
Average Cost per entree
$ - <$12
$$ - < 25
$$$ - < 35
$$$$ - if you have to ask...
Often we forget nifty places we've picked out or places we've been and we'll end up at the same old "2" kind of place. It'd be nice to remember other places and explore a little like we did tonight. The flavor of the food was good. The lamb was overdone, although the flavors in each dish were carefully thought out and paired with both the underdish and a wine. The asparagus w/ balaslmic and aioli was okay, but nothing really to write home about. Our remaining dishes encompassed quail (
eisenhund's favorite), button mushrooms (nicely done), a specialty bread w/ pancetta/herbs/bruschetta-like topping, and a cheese plate for dessert. The service was very attentive and helpful in the explaination of tapas and the manager/owner spent a good deal of time chatting with us - perhaps because we were one of only two tables on a Tuesday night. Overall, Bokitas gets a fair 4 sporks.
