Got my first rejection:... sob... ;)
I wonder if he was really impressed or this is just some sort of form letter ?
Anyhow, at least they looked.
I didn't supply my website, only my email, so they at least made the effort
to search it out which is nice. :)
I have to clean-up the beginner type photo's.

I would imagine he'd have to see more news photography, to see that he can do it. Just because you're competent, even amazing with a camera doesn't mean you have the eye for news and photojournalism.

It's different. I'm iffy with the photojournalism (Which is odd because that is what I get paid to do) but could NEVER do the fashion stuff. Or portraits.

I'm sure they jsut want to see more of his catching emotion of people at a scene, knowing who to get in a crowd at a rally or meeting, the moment of impact during an accident, and so on. (And hopefully they aren't looking for the stilted 'politician handshake' photos that I HATE to take but people pose for and editors print anyways. Let me tell you, both papers I worked for have selected the most godawful photos to run.)

BTW before I sound like a complete snot, the papers I work for are teeny tiny NYC local papers. Not big dailies.

That's a very, _very_ good rejection and nothing at all to feel bad about. Bad rejections are the kind which make you feel that the only thing left to do is to immediately slit your throat.
