not an actual diagnosis

But two of the friends who came for dinner tonight, one a nurse who now teaches at the community college, the other a med student going for sports medicine, had a look at my leg (unwrapped). Both have also seen the xray & CT scan pics that Mark took from the screen, and heard my account of what happened ( Read more... )

Oh, peste. I would be exceedingly cranky if I thought my doctors weren't telling me what was going on. My sympathy on your ligament predicament.

I can see why they wouldn't want to commit without an MRI, but I don't like the feeling of being head-patted. And I'd rather know the odds earlier than have it come as a surprise when I get the immobilizer off and start thinking it's all done, you know? Thanks for sympathies - I will apply them as needed :)

I have to say "detached" anything doesn't sound fun to me. I was relieved to read the part that suggests they can fix it.

It's easy for people to say six weeks is no big deal when they're not the ones who'll be experiencing it.

Apparently it's the sort of thing that football players and other sporty people have done, so lots of experienced surgeons.
But the only one really enthusiastic about another six weeks is the cat, who thinks extended bed rest is the best thing ever.

My 'it could be worse' reflex is a little tired.

I hear you on that one, I really do. I hope your friends are mistaken; and if they turn out not to be, I wish you lots of extra heavy-duty strength and stamina to put up with everything.

Thanks! And I really hope things ease up for you very soon. Maybe lots of commissions and an excuse to work by yourself and not interact with the menfolk?

I found that docs shy away from diagnosing until they can be nearly 100% certain. Too many come back at them when they give it their best guess and say, "But you said!!!"

Gads, I hate crutches. The few times I've had to use them, I ended up NOT. I'd rather hop about.

Well, in the good news dept. I tried a cold pack on my hand and it helped a lot - probably an arthritis thing. And yeah, I can see why the doctors would be cagey, but I'd like to know what the possibilities are, so I can adjust. Still, for all they know, I'm a massive drama queen and would have flipped out, so...
