I'm sure I read somewhere that "geaky" girls have a far better record at finding a partner than "girly" girls do, simply because "geaky" girls tend to work and socialise in fields in which they are surrounded by men, while "girly" girls tend to do the opposite. However I'm dammed if I can find the reference!

Surely it's all to do with relating to people? You're bound to have more in common with someone with similar life experiences. Also (making a sweeping generalisation and probably getting into big trouble here) geeky girls as you put it tend to be less needy and high maintenance than girly girls, and most blokes can't be bothered with needy women. Or so they tell me...

For everyone at any particular time I guess there is the probability that a particular person will be a match for a partner. So the likelihood of you actually meeting someone becomes P*N where P is the probability and N is the number of potential people you meet. So your sweeping generalisation (which on a large scale is probably true) says that P is higher than one might expect, while my sweeping generalisation says that N is higher than average. So we can both be right :)

I only posted that because last weekend I attended a wedding of a girl who everyone acknowledges is a bit of a geek (she is a uni friend of hazeln). The wedding was the first time most people had ever seen her in a dress (and goodness did she look good in it, perfect figure for a wedding dress). I'm told at school that nobody thought she'd ever get a guy, but she is beating a lot of the ones that were supposedly dead certs!
