Deja vu - "wondering if Kuja's going to have a deja vu when he wakes up again, since this IS pretty similar to how this whole thing started, after all."
This is why I see the story as 2 halves, with the second half mirroring some aspects of the first. Zidane's going to get a very literal second chance at building a relationship and a life with Kuja.
Garnet's (and the others) side of the story - "It's good to see what happens in between, just to know how everyone is holding up on either side." and "I feel really sorry what her and the rest have to deal with because Zidane's actions."
I'm glad I decided to give Garnet and the others left behind in Alexandria a scene of their own; even though this is about Kuja and Zidane I don't want to forget that there's other characters in the story who were greatly affected by Zidane's decision.
Garnet will have a lot to deal with but I think she's already starting to come to terms with losing Zidane. Her part in the story is done for now, but I hope I managed to leave her in a position where she can deal with her loss and then pick herself back up and move on.
Kuja's fate in canon - "I always felt Kuja deserved a happy end. It's bogus how the game leaves you hanging on whether or not Kuja is alive -.-"
I'm 99.9 percent sure Kuja's dead in canon; they're just really good at avoiding the word "dead" (the whole Black Mages "stopping" thing comes to mind). So it's that 0.1 percent hope that I'm clinging to at the start of this story. I think in some ways it would've been easier for Kuja here, if he had a definite answer to whether he'd live on longer or not. The uncertainty must feel like a punishment unto itself.
