The progressive accretion of elements of engineering into the half-sleeve sounds like a very cool idea!

On the 'sharper towards the elbow' thing, you have more nerve-endings in areas which move more: more inside the elbow than on the forearm. The stage one psych experiment for this involves blindfolding your lab partner and then jabbing hir in the forearm with a set of dividers, asking whether that was one point or two. It is an experiment which you do not forget.

I'm guessing that the actual experiment measures sadism amongst the class & has nothing to do with nerve endings :-)
