To start off, it's been a crappy day. First my mom's car wouldn't start when she was going to take me to work, and so I ended up biking (after trying to figure out what's wrong with the car) and being an hour late. It was a relatively good day at work though; I closed lunch and made a decent amount of money...and then I lost it all, as I got mugged on my way home.
I was riding along on my bike rather slowly, and these three guys came up to me and were asking for a smoke, which I didn't have on me, having officially quit with this years Folk Group retreat. But these guys don't know me at all, and so they wouldn't have known that I'd ever smoked in the first place, much less that I quit. So I told them I didn't have any and started to move on, again at a slow relaxed pace.
They come after me a little bit, but not in a threatening way, in a "hey, wait up, I'm still talking" kind of way. Then they were like, "hey you got any money on you?" And of course I lied and said I didn't. Like I said, I didn't know these guys. I started moving again, and they grabbed the handlebars and were like, "Come on man, just let me get two dollars. I only need two dollars." And as they were coming across as annoying much more than threatening, I figured to give them a five so they'd leave me alone. And when I pulled out my wallet, they smacked it out of my hand and my money fell out. They scooped it up and ran off, giving me a light smack upside the head as they left for good measure. Bastards. Well, I suppose I needed a dummy smack after that.
Anyhow, they got away with about $160 cash. Which sucks. But it could have been worse. They could have got the bike. Or the whole wallet with my credit card, bank card, driver's license, and social security card in it. And I could have gotten worse than a light smack upside the head.
In the realm of good news, NaNoWriMo starts in a little over 24 hours, which I'm excited about. I still don't know what I'm writing about and reckon I won't until midnight tomorrow. I have a few ideas spinning around in my head and hopefully one of them with start to solidify on paper when the clock strikes midnight of November 1st.
Also in the realm of awesomeness is Coheed & Cambria's new album, No World For Tomorrow. Freakin' awesome. I love how now two of their albums really sound very much alike. Also, Claudio's voice is sounding better than ever. He's singing with amazingly good tone quality, even on the really high notes and even live now. I'm pretty sure he's been taking vocal lessons. The album is very melodic overall.
"No World For Tomorrow" itself, the title track, has a feel that reminds me vaguely of "In Keeping Secrets" particularly on the chorus, with the shouted "Raise your hands high!" kind of working in the same way "Man your own jackhammer!" did. "The Hound (Of Blood and Rank)" has some very 70s/80s progrock sounding parts, particularly the Foreigner-ish intro. "Mother Superior," what can I say? The acoustic version has been totally blown away. This has quickly leapt up to become one of my favourite Coheed songs. And "Gunslingers And Gravemakers" is as much of an asskicking as the title promises. I always picture crazy-ass seat-of-your-pants action scenes when I hear this song. Something in the riffs makes me think of an 80s metal sound, plus there's a rockin' hammond organ on the chorus, and the vocals are just wow. The bridge is a classic Coheed sound. Overall this is the most intense, amazing, kickass album EVER. It sounds completely different from there early stuff, but still has what I can only describe as an intensely Coheed sound. This went into my CD player on October 23rd when it came out and hasn't left since. I still have yet to find a copy of the deluxe edition. Hopefully I'll be able to get one before it sells out completely. In the meantime, I'll follow the lyrics on their website.
So in summary, getting mugged sucks, NaNoWriMo is going to be kickass-awesome, and No World For Tomorrow by Coheed & Cambria is the most insanely badass and intensely awesome disc of music in the history of rock which completely blow everything else out of the water.
On that final note, with the return to Livejournal, so shall I return to my traditional signature, followed by a random song lyric except.
"Raise your hands high!
Young brothers and sisters
There's a worlds worth of work and a need for you
Oh, the change is coming
Feel these doors now close
Is there no world for tomorrow
If we wait for today?" -Coheed & Cambria, No World For Tomorrow
Honor,
-Bobby
P.S. Kriston--Last time I posted, you said it wasn't long enough to count as a real update after so long...is this long enough of an entry for you? :P XD
