So, I have all the measurements ready for Heather's bike, the workshop is ready and we have the tubes; we can start mitering tubes now. I'm both quite excited about this, and also a little wary. I guess there's no time like the present!

Also, hot damn my shed is turning into a fine little workshop.

What kind of bike you building? And what material? Steel, I assume?

I'm excited to see it!

:) We're building a internally geared lugged steel commuter for her. The geo was interesting to work out since she is quite short in stature. (5'2") I'll post updates as we get things made. I think it'll be a fairly slow process. I'm exited about it too!

Here's a cad drawing of the frame - it has a 700c rear wheel and a 26" front wheel - kept the standover down and the lug angles sane.

I also just ordered a cheap 29er tube set from Nova cycles. I'm going to make a bike with a geo really similar to my cross check, but with a different tubeset and tire clearance for 2.1" tires. And maybe a truss for for fun.

That sounds awesome. Keep us posted! What hub are you going to use?

That is a good question. I can get the new shimano nexus/alfine hub for not too much money, it's definitely the most likely hub at this point.

As for the front, not sure. The cool thing is that given that this is going to be a commuting bike for a light rider with a 26" front wheel, I think we'll be able to do a light rim 24 (or 28) spoke front wheel job for the front.
